The Memphis Grizzlies will spend part of their preseason training camp at Vanderbilt’s Memorial Gym.
Vanderbilt associate athletics director Brock Williams told The Tennessean on Friday the contract with the NBA team had been signed. Later in the day, the Grizzlies released a press release with details on the camp.
The camp will be held Oct. 1-5 at Vanderbilt. Those sessions are closed to the public. However, camp will conclude with 2 basketball clinics on Saturday Oct 5th (8.30am and 10am), followed by an open practice (for the public) at Ensworth School (7401 Highway 100, Nashville, TN 37221) from 12:00pm-2:00pm. The first 1,500 fans will be guaranteed admission to the practice. Clinic Info Here.
This marks the first time that the Grizzlies have held training camp in Nashville. Since relocating from Vancouver in 2001, the organization has held camp in Memphis nine times and also has traveled to Birmingham, Ala., (2009) as well as Malaga, Spain, (2007) and Barcelona, Spain, (2003) as part of the NBA Europe Live Tour.
The Grizzlies are coming off the deepest postseason run in franchise history, which culminated with a trip to the 2013 Western Conference Finals. Memphis will tip off an eight-game preseason slate Oct. 7 against the Chicago Bulls at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
The Grizzlies open the regular season Oct. 30 at San Antonio before hosting the Detroit Pistons in the home opener Nov. 1.
